Father Biju Antony

Our diocese is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Father Biju Antony in a tragic motor vehicle accident yesterday, January 2, 2013, at the age of 39. Father Biju was a member of the religious congregation, Missionaries of Faith, and came to us in May of 2009.

Father Biju was ordained to the priesthood on December 9, 2002 at Holy Trinity Church, Nadipally (Diocese of Eluru), India. Before coming to Canada, Father Biju served in the Provincial House of his congregation in Eluru, India; was Parish Administrator of Holy Cross Church, Kothuru, India; was in charge of the Marymatha Orphanage, Allippalli, India; served in two parishes in the Diocese of Kingstown, West Indies. His last appointment before being accepted into the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador in 2009 was as an Associate in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Kingstown.

Father Biju spent a year in St. Stephen’s Parish, Stephenville, before becoming Administrator of Our Lady of Grace Parish, Bird Cove, on August 1, 2010.

He is survived by his mother, father, one brother and sister-in-law and their 3 children.

Visitation: Sunday, January 6, 2013 – 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (8:30 p.m. Prayers)
Funeral Mass: Monday, January 7, 2013 – 11:00 a.m.
ST. STEPHEN’S CHURCH – STEPHENVILLE
Visitation: Monday, January 7, 2013 – 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (8:30 p.m. Prayers)
Funeral Mass: Tuesday, January 8, 2013 – 10:00 a.m.

ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CHURCH – ST. ANTHONY
Memorial Service and Mass: Sunday, January 6, 2013 – 3:00 p.m. for Mr. Justin Devis.

Mr. Devis was travelling in the car with Father Biju. Mr. Devis was employed in the hospital in St. Anthony and was also from India.

The principal celebrant at all Masses will be the Most Reverend Peter Hundt, Bishop of the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador.

Following these funeral services the bodies of both Father Biju and Mr. Devis will be transported to the families in India for funeral services and burial there.

May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
