Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada

Every year, the Bishops of Canada make an appeal for financial assistance to support its work through the Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) is the national assembly of Catholic Bishops in Canada, including the Eastern Catholic Churches of Canada.

As explained by the President of the CCCB, the Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau, in his letter to parishes

“Each diocese participates in financing the regional assemblies and the Conference by a contribution based on its Catholic population. The annual Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada invites all the faithful to participate in this financing by helping their diocese meet its financial obligations to the regional assemblies and to the national Conference. Any additional revenues raised help the diocese support its own diocesan pastoral programs and other activities.”

This past year was marked by several pastoral projects initiated by the CCCB, including the second annual National Week for Life and Family, which is part of the pastoral plan for life and family. The CCCB also published a number of educational materials and resources to support the work of the dioceses in teaching the faith. An overview of the year’s activities can be found on the CCCB webpage.

“This year we have several reasons to celebrate our common journey in faith and Evangelization,” writes Archbishop Durocher in his letter. “ Pope Francis proclaimed two of the founders of the Church in Canada saints of the Universal Church: Bishop François de Laval and Mother Marie of the Incarnation. Many pilgrims are travelling to Quebec City for the 350th anniversary of the Parish Notre-Dame de Québec, North America’s first Catholic parish outside Spanish territories.”

“By contributing to the Collection, you collaborate with us in our ministry and in
following the steps of Saint Francois de Laval and Saint Marie of the Incarnation who
also gave a hand to helping the Gospel. Thank you for assuming your part in this
wonderful project of evangelization and faith in your own region and throughout Canada.”

Please be generous in your financial support of this Special Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada. And please remember to support your Bishops and their important work through your prayers.
