Year of Consecrated Life

The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life has released a logo and theme for the Year, together with a letter to consecrated men and women, entitled “Rejoice”. And Pope Francis has written an Apostolic letter to all consecrated people.

Throughout the year, there will be various international, national, regional and diocesan events to mark the Year. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) will be posting on their Website short outlines of the lives and spirituality of those Canadian Saints and Blesseds who were members of religious communities. The year began with the presentation of Saint Brother André Bessette, whose feast was celebrated on January 7, and Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys, whose feast was celebrated on January 12. Visit the CCCB Website for more information on events planned for this Year of Consecrated Life.

In our diocese, there are fourteen religious sisters from three different orders, one member of the Society of Jesus, seven priests from missionary societies, one consecrated virgin and one hermit. These consecrated men and women serve in a variety of ministries: as catechists, as spiritual directors, and in pastoral care and services among the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalized. We pray for God's continued blessing on them as they live out their life of prayer and service among us.
