Supreme Court Decision

On February 6, 2015, the Supreme Court of Canada, in a 9-0 judgment made a decision on assisted suicide that is of great concern.  As Catholics we recognize the dignity of every human person and believe that care of the sick, dying and elderly takes a loving and compassionate form in palliative care.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 2277, states: “Whatever its motives and means, direct euthanasia consists in putting an end to the lives of handicapped, sick or dying persons. It is morally unacceptable.”
