Monsignor Raymond March

Monsignor Raymond March passed away peacefully on  March 16, 2015  in his 90th year.  He was born in Stephenville, NL on April 14, 1925. Monsignor’s early education was in Kippens, and he completed Grade Xll at St. Bonaventure’s College in St. John’s.  He studied for the priesthood at St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto, Ontario.  On April 16, 1950, he was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of St. George’s by Bishop Michael O’Reilly at St. Stephen’s Parish, Stephenville.

After his ordination, Monsignor March served in the Cathedral Parish in Corner Brook until 1958.  From there he went on to serve in many parishes throughout the diocese, including St. Columcille in St. Fintan’s, Maria Regina Parish in Port au Port East, Sacred Heart Parish in Curling, and Stella Maris Parish in Benoit’s Cove.  In 1965 he was appointed as Vicar General of the Diocese of St. George’s. Monsignor also served in several parishes in Halifax and in Truro, Nova Scotia.

Upon retiring from active ministry Monsignor resided at the Parish residence in Stephenville until his illness created the need for assisted care.

Monsignor was known as a very prayerful man with a deep and abiding faith.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 18, from 2:00-4:00pm at Russell’s Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville and from 6:00– 9:00 pm (Prayer Vigil at 8:00 pm) at St. Stephen’s Church, 78 West Street, Stephenville.

The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, March 19, at 10:00 am at St. Stephen’s Church, Stephenville with the Most Reverend Peter Hundt, Bishop of the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador, as the chief celebrant.
