Father Gordon Grace

It is with great sadness that the Diocese mourns the death of Father Gordon Grace.  Father Grace died Monday, March 28, 2016, at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 83.  Father Grace had retired from active ministry in August, 2013.

Father Grace studied at Regina Cleric Seminary in Saskatchewan and was ordained to the priesthood on June 1, 1958 by Bishop Michael O’Reilly at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer and of the Immaculate Conception in Corner Brook.

Father Grace served in many parishes throughout the Diocese. From 1958 -1965 he served as Curate, first in Lourdes (1958-1960), then in the Cathedral Parish (1960-62), and then in All Hallows Parish in Corner Brook (1962-65).  In 1965 he became the Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Parish in Harbour Breton.

From there he went to St. Ignatius Parish in St. Alban’s in 1969, back to All Hallows Parish in 1979 and then to Holy Rosary Parish, Pasadena, in 1986.  While in Pasadena, he was asked, in 1992, to provide pastoral services to Immaculate Conception Parish in Deer Lake while that parish was under the care of two Sisters.

On the sudden death of Msgr. Boone in 2002, Father Grace offered to provide weekend services for the people of All Hallows Parish.  In 2006, he returned to Holy Rosary Parish in Pasadena as Administrator and remained there until retiring in 2013.  Father Grace continued to fill in for the priests in the local area until 2015.

Those who knew Father Grace will remember his faithfulness to prayer and the sacraments, his kindness and thoughtfulness, his sense of humour, his love of music and his sense of the history of the diocese and its people.

Funeral Arrangements for Father Grace are as follows:

Wed. Mar. 30th 7 – 9 pm: Visitation at Holy Rosary Parish in Pasadena (Prayers at 8 pm)

Thurs. Mar. 31st 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm: Visitation at Holy Redeemer Cathedral in Corner Brook (Prayers at 8 pm)

Fri. Apr. 1st 10:30 am:  Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Redeemer Cathedral, Corner Brook with Bishop Peter Hundt as the principal celebrant. (Burial to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery)

Our sympathy is extended to his brother Clarence and his family, his sister-in-law, his nieces and nephews. May his soul and the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace. Amen.
