Fire in Fort McMurray

Over this past week there has been a great deal of media coverage of the wildfire destruction in Fort McMurray.  Many of us have family and friends who have been severely affected by this tragedy.  As well as praying for them we want to do what we can financially to help them recover from this disaster.

Personal donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, especially as both the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta have announced they will match individual donations made to the Canadian Red Cross for those affected by the wildfires in and surrounding Fort McMurray.  Alternatively, donations may also be sent to the Diocese of St. Paul, the Catholic Diocese in which Fort McMurray in located.

The bishop of that diocese, Most Rev. Paul Terrio, has confirmed that one-half of any contributions received will be used to assist the Catholic parishes and parishioners of Fort McMurray, while the other half will be forwarded to the Fort McMurray Ministerial Association for ecumenical assistance to those who have lost homes and jobs. Donations to the Diocese of St. Paul are to be forwarded to:
