Father Joseph Gash - Golden Jubliee

Father Joseph A. Gash was born and grew up in Sacred Heart Parish, Curling, Corner Brook. He received his early education at St. Aiden’s school in Curling East, then at Holy Cross school in Curling. He later attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto. After Ordination he studied catechetics at Fordham University in New York and Liturgy and Monastic Life at St. John’s University and Abbey in Minnesota.

Ordained June 4th, 1961, at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer and Immaculate Conception by Bishop Michael O’Reilly, he began his priestly ministry at the Cathedral in Corner Brook. He afterwards ministered in Curling, All Hallows, in Diocesan Catechetics, Codroy Valley, Benoit’s Cove, St. Alban’s, Lourdes, Cape St. George, Port au Port, and Piccadilly.

He enjoyed ministering in the various parishes and especially involvement with so many wonderful people in their daily lives. Living and promoting Liturgy were high on the agenda; he has a special fond memory of the students at Grenfell College from serving as chaplain there.

He is grateful to God for the opportunity of serving the people, for the gift of the Priesthood, and for these many good people who entered his life. He now attempts to live a life of quiet and perhaps fulfill monastic tendencies near trees and a lake.
