Thanksgiving and Farewell

After 26 years, St. Mary’s Place of Solitude and Prayer officially closed as a Hermitage, a place of spirituality, on Thursday, May 26, 2016. A Celebration of Thanksgiving was held at the Hermitage site, during which thanks was given for the land, for all those who, over the years, had sought out the peace and solitude of the hermitage and for all those who in any way supported the continued existence of St. Mary’s Place. Following this celebration, a reception was held at St. Ann’s Hall in Doyles. The reception provided the occasion to thank Sheila O’Handley and wish her well as she returns to her native Nova Scotia where she plans to continue living out her commitment to the eremitical life. It was also an opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for all the individuals and groups whose involvement and dedication supported St. Mary’s Place for the past 26 years.
