50th Anniversary

Monsignor Gale was born in Searston, Codroy Valley on June 13, 1942 to Mary (neé Doyle) and Francis Gale.  In 1959 he completed his secondary education at St. Stephen’s High School in Stephenville and entered St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto, ON.

On Jun 12, 1966 he was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Michael O’Reilly at St. Stephen’s Church in Stephenville, NL.

From 1966-1974 he served as Assistant Pastor at Sacred Heart Parish (Curling), St. Joseph’s Parish (St. George’s) and St. Ann’s Parish (Doyles, Codroy Valley).

From 1974-1980 he was Pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish (Harbour Breton).  During the summer months he attended Notre Dame University for liturgical studies.  During this time he was appointed Director of Liturgy for the St. George’s Diocese (as it was then known) and has served in that position since then.

From 1980-1986 Monsignor was pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish (Deer Lake) and from 1986 -1993 was pastor of Star of the Sea Parish (Benoit’s Cove).

In 1993 Monsignor Gale took a sabbatical year to study at the School of Applied Technology in Oakland, California.

From 1994-2000, he served as pastor of St. Stephen’s Parish (Stephenville).

From 2000-2013, Monsignor was Rector of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer and of the Immaculate Conception (Corner Brook).  Following the death of Msgr. William Boone in 2002, Msgr. Gale  became Administrator of All Hallows Parish (Corner Brook). In 2013 he was appointed Pastor of Holy Rosary Parish (Pasadena).

Monsignor Gale has served as Vicar General of the Diocese on several occasions; the first appointment to this position was in 1999.

Monsignor has long been involved with the Knights of Columbus, serving two terms as their State Chaplain.
