The 50th International Eucharistic Congress

People of God, rejoice! The 50th International Eucharist Congress is soon to take place, in Dublin, Ireland, during the early summer of 2012. This will also mark the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and the theme has been drawn from the documents, The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with One Another.

This Congress will draw tens of thousands from all over the world to further their connection to the Real Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. The schedule for the week is rich. Processions, conferences on a variety of topics, youth events and programmes, adoration, workshops, catechesis, testimonials, and more will be available daily. Central to all of this is the daily offering of the Mass itself.

International Eucharistic Congresses currently take place every four years. They began in 1881 in France, and have grown steadily since then. The most recent Congress was held in 2008, in Quebec City. More information on, and opportunities to attend, this Congress will be forthcoming on the website. Stay tuned!

A number of great links are available with some quick searching. A small selection of some choice websites is below:

  • An EWTN interview between Fr. Kevin Doran, Secretary General for the Congress, and Fr. Mitch Pacwa on the Eucharistic Congress.
  • Lumen Gentium, the great document of the Second Vatican Council on the nature of the Church. This is the source of the theme for the Congress.
