MONSIGNOR RODERICK WHITE

Monsignor was a member of the Board of Consultors for the Diocese, a member of the Board for the Association of Roman Catholic School Boards, and represented western Newfoundland on the Board of Directors of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s. Upon the resignation of Bishop McGrath in 1985, Monsignor served as Administrator of the Diocese of St. George’s and served as Vicar General from 1986-1990.  He was appointed Prelate of Honour, with the title of Monsignor, in 1978 by Pope John Paul 1.

Monsignor White had two great passions – music and history. During Bishop Hundt’s visits he would join with him in singing Salve Regina.  On the occasion of the 100thAnniversary of the Diocese of St. George’s in 2004, the diocese published “Pioneer Days and Pioneer People in the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. George’s, NL” written by Monsignor White.
