Title: Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada

Every year, the Bishops of Canada make an appeal for financial assistance to support its work through the Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) is the national assembly of Catholic Bishops in Canada, including the Eastern Catholic Churches of Canada.

Each diocese participates in financing the regional assemblies and the national Conference by a contribution based on its Catholic population. The annual Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada invites all the faithful to participate in this financing by helping their diocese meet its financial obligations to the regional assemblies and to the national Conference. Any additional revenues raised help the diocese support its own diocesan pastoral programs and other activities. This special collection will be taken up on the weekend of September 23-24.

In his letter to the parishes across the country, the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., Bishop of Hamilton and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), recalls that the collection "is an opportunity for Catholics to truly help their diocese/eparchy participate in the regional episcopal assemblies and the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB)." Bishop Crosby also notes that "all the faithful indeed participate in the life and mission of the Church through their active involvement in the life of their parish community, their prayers, their diverse charisms, their moral support, and the contributions of their time and talents."

This past year has been a busy one for the CCCB, which was involved in a number of issues, including euthanasia, physician-assisted suicide and the need for palliative care; indigenous issues, including, among others, the formation of Our Lady of Guadalupe Circle and assisting the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls; and the Ad Limina visits to the Holy See by each of the four regional episcopal assemblies, among others. Canadian delegations were present at both national and international events and the CCCB also published a number of educational materials and resources to support the work of the dioceses in teaching the faith. Please be generous in your financial support of this Special Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada and the important work done by the CCCB.  And please remember to support your Bishops through your prayers.
