Title: Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada

Every year, the Bishops of Canada make an appeal for financial assistance to support its work through the Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) is the national assembly of Catholic Bishops in Canada, including the Eastern Catholic Churches of Canada.

Each diocese participates in financing the regional assemblies and the national Conference by a contribution based on its Catholic population. The annual Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada invites all the faithful to participate in this financing by helping their diocese meet its financial obligations to the regional assemblies and to the national Conference. Any additional revenues raised help the diocese support its own diocesan pastoral programs and other activities.

The Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada will be taken up in Dioceses across Canada on the weekend of September 29-30, 2018.

In his letter to the parishes across the country, the Most Reverend Lionel Gendron, P.S.S., Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), notes how this collection "allows all the Catholic faithful to express their solidarity with their diocese/epachy and also provides an opportunity to support the work of their regional episcopal assembly as well as the national mission of our Conference.”

This past year has been a busy one for the CCCB, which was involved in a number of issues, including the on-going work of the CCCB Palliative Care Working Group; indigenous issues, including, among others,  a make-over of the Canadian Catholic Indigenous Council, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2018and continued efforts to establish a renewed relationship with Indigenous People based on meaningful events of reconciliation, such as participation in eight listening circles across the country; and the completion of a new document  presenting expanded guidelines to protect minors from sexual abuse. A Canadian delegation attended the recent World Meeting of Families in Ireland and a delegation will attend the Synod on Youth, the Faith and Vocational Discernment. Please be generous in your financial support of this Special Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada and the important work done by the CCCB.  And please remember to support your Bishops through your prayers.
